Medical Billing Ques?

Recently I was in the custody of the warren county police department, will in their custody I began to have severe chest pains, the police took me to a local hospital for treatment. While in the hospital I was under their custody with a 24hr guard and handcuffed to the bed. I have since been released and now the hospital is saying that I am responsible for the bills. Now my question is because I was a prisoner of the state of NJ shouldn't they be responsible for the medical bills?
