Is it tacky to have a church ceremony with appetizers afterward and can I invite my aunts and uncles or only?

immediate family? We will be serving petite tarts, quiches, souffles, crab cakes, and deli spirals along with a champagne toast, soda, tea, coffee and finally the wedding cake after the service. However, I was told if I invite anyone besides our siblings and parents we are fishing for gifts and the whole church/appetizer idea is tacky. We have been engaged for 5 years and keep postponing the wedding due to a lack of funds and emotional support from our families. I bought my dress four years ago and would really like to show it off and the only why I can do that is with the church wedding. I just want to be seen in my dress and have a mini stress free celebration...Am I wrong...is this idea tacky...will it seem we just want gifts...should we just go to the courthouse?
